You bet I've worked for my university...I've been a TA, and I've taught my own courses. If my union had collective bargaining rights, maybe that teaching would have paid me enough to live on. But it didn't. So I've also looked after a special collection in the university library. I've proctored exams. I've taught at another university. I've even done gardening and housekeeping for a professor and his wife. Here too the university managed to keep our student jobs out of the local union's bargaining unit. Are students so special that we are supposed to labor just for the love of it?
